Product Summary

Universal joints, otherwise known as U-Joints, are bendable mechanical devices used to connect two shafts which are not aligned with one another. Through this connection, the rotational movement of one shaft can be transferred to the other shaft. For an example in automotive use, a universal joint may be used to in a vehicle’s transmission system, where the driveshaft is connected to the axle using such a device. A universal joint has a striking significance to a plus sign in appearance; containing a shimmering circular head on each of its four ends. The construction of this device is such that it contains a set of hinges that are positioned near one another, angled at 90° and are linked by a cross shaft.
Although the universal joint is not designed to perform any movement on its own, it is still a vital piece of equipment that is needed in every automotive vehicle and numerous other heavy machineries. It is what allows power to be transferred from the driveshaft on to the axle, and with such an important component, it should be cared for and maintained.

As cars and trucks begin to age, some auto parts are more susceptible to wear than others and, therefore, need replacement. If you notice your vehicle beginning to vibrate and shake at certain speeds while accelerating, it's possible you need to replace your universal joint. A universal joint is a mechanism that allows the two sides of the axle to move freely and independently of one another. When lubrication is lost, the u-joint begins to wear. If that happens, it’s time to replace your joint.
