With the increase in importance of the plant industry, the Plant Export Council was established in March 2001 through autonomous agreement among the plant enterprises and related organizations to raise competitiveness in overseas markets and to prevent excessive competition among the domestic businesses. In order to further the improvement of the plant industry through systematic analysis and to increase cooperation among related parties, the need for expansion of the Council led to establishment of the Korea Plant Industries Association (KOPIA) in March 2003.
